Over 25,000 visitors have already attended the 3rd Valencia Biennial since it opened last september.
Inaugurated in the presence of the most important political figures and of the international press, it is directed, like the former editions, by LUIGI SETTEMBRINI, who also conceived the project. This third edition, curated by SEUNGDUK KIM and FRANCK GAUTHEROT, revolves around the element of life par excellence, WATER, and offers the ideas numerous protagonists on the international art scene have of it. Artists include On Kawara, Yayoi Kusama, Denis Santachiara, Miltos Manetas, John Armleder, Richard Kern, Angela Bulloch, Sylvie Fleury, Duane Hanson, Robert Longo, Serse, Alessandra Tesi, Massimo Vitali, Arto Lindsay, Lynda Benglis, just to name a few.
Visitors arrive from all over Spain and Europe to admire the splendid El Carmen Convent, "re-invented" with installations and works, some of which have been made especially for the occasion.
The icon of this year’s Biennial is a sinuous blonde mermaid, the American artist Julie Atlas Muz, who gracefully flows in a tank of the great aquarium of Valencia’s Oceanographic Museum that re-creates the evocative seabed of the Red Sea.
An image you won’t forget.
The Biennial’s catalogue, complete with photos of the installations in El Carmen Convent, is internationally distributed by Charta.
